A very special match is casting its shadow as the German national team faces an exciting new beginning. In the context of the Nations League, the DFB selection meets the Netherlands in Amsterdam this evening. This eagerly awaited duel also marks the kickoff of a new era, as it is the first official match under the leadership of newly appointed national coach Jurgen Klopp.
Jurgen Klopp Evades Laura Wontorra’s Tricky Question
Before kickoff, the 59-year-old coach faced questions from RTL moderator Laura Wontorra and expert Lothar Matthaus at the sideline. The conversation quickly took a humorous yet persistent turn when the moderator brought up the countless congratulatory messages that had reached the new coach in advance.
Wontorra directly followed up and wanted to know whether the coach had been able to open all the messages and if there was a very special message among them. Klopp replied that while all reactions were special in their own way, his primary focus in recent days had been entirely on meticulous sports preparation. They tried to convey tactical content and give the team the necessary self-confidence for the upcoming challenge.
However, the experienced moderator was not satisfied with this general answer and confronted the coach directly with a concrete assumption. She wanted to know if former national coach or predecessor had gotten in touch. Reacting to this targeted inquiry with a smile, Klopp playfully emphasized that he would not publicly comment on individual people who had sought contact with him.
Prominent Well-Wishers and Preparation for Holland
To further evade the charming cross-examination, Klopp playfully brought up prominent names like comedian Bully Herbig and musician Campino. He explained that countless messages had poured in and that he simply hadn’t found time to check his smartphone during the immediate preparation. Nevertheless, he reaffirmed that he shares the common goal of making German football successful again.
Whether the national coach will reveal the secret about the incoming messages after the final whistle in Amsterdam remains to be seen. What is certain, however, is that fans are looking forward to this first litmus test with great anticipation.
