In a stunning development for English football, long-standing Bromley manager Andy Woodman has officially left the League One club following the mutual termination of his contract.
Woodman first took charge at Hayes Lane in 2021 in what was his inaugural managerial role. Over the span of five years and seven months, he orchestrated the most successful era in the club’s history, guiding the Ravens into the Football League for the very first time and capturing three major trophies along the way. His exceptional leadership culminated in May when he steered Bromley to the League Two title, earning him the division’s Manager of the Year accolade for the 2025-26 campaign.
A Challenging Transition into League One
Despite his legendary status at Hayes Lane, life in the third tier has proved exceptionally difficult for the newly promoted club. Bromley currently find themselves struggling in 23rd place in the League One standings, sitting just one point above the bottom club, Wigan Athletic.
The team has managed only two victories from their opening 10 league fixtures this season while conceding an EFL-high 25 goals. Following a heavy 4-0 defeat to Leicester City—marking their third consecutive league loss and fifth across all competitions—both the club hierarchy and Woodman mutually agreed that a change was necessary to alter their fortunes. Assistant manager Byron Webster has been appointed to take charge of first-team affairs on an interim basis.
Reflecting on a Remarkable Legacy
Reflecting on the departure, Bromley owner and chairman Robin Stanton-Gleaves acknowledged that Woodman was fundamental in helping the club reach unprecedented heights. He expressed personal gratitude, noting that working alongside Woodman had been a true pleasure while wishing him the absolute best for the future.
At the time of his departure, Woodman held the third-longest managerial tenure across all 92 clubs in the Premier League and English Football League, trailing only Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta and Mansfield Town’s Nigel Clough. Although his exit leaves an emotional void for the fans and raises questions about the club’s immediate future, Woodman will forever be celebrated as the master architect of Bromley’s modern golden age.
