PlayStation Plus subscribers have experienced mixed feelings regarding the platform’s standard October Essential tier line-up, which many considered rather mediocre. However, Sony has quietly confirmed an exciting major addition heading specifically to higher-tier members this month. Developer One More Level is officially scheduled to release their anticipated dark action RPG, Valor Mortis, on October 13.
Exploring the Gameplay and Valor Mortis
The studio, widely recognized for developing the hit cyberpunk title Ghostrunner, is making its adventurous debut into the soulslike genre with this new project. Ahead of its official launch, it has been confirmed that Valor Mortis will introduce a special Game Trial exclusively for PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers. Game Trials serve as extended demos designed for high-profile releases, allowing dedicated players to experience the title before making a purchase.
In this case, the Valor Mortis trial will offer a timed 90-minute access window to the full game experience. Developer One More Level has confirmed via social media that all player progression achieved during this trial period will automatically carry over should users decide to purchase the full version for $39.99. Furthermore, the team explicitly noted that they are avoiding pre-order paywalls or locking exclusive content behind pre-purchases, ensuring a fair launch for everyone.
A Dark Historical Narrative and Critical Early Impressions
For players unfamiliar with the premise, Valor Mortis delivers a grim first-person experience. The narrative follows William, a former soldier of Napoleon’s Grande Armée who rises unexpectedly from a battlefield grave. However, the Europe he returns to is entirely altered by a mysterious plague sweeping across the continent. Reborn with the corrupting power of this plague pulsing through his veins, the protagonist must navigate a brutal world.
Early hands-on previews from gaming critics at events like Gamescom have praised its unique historical theme and satisfying combat loop, raising expectations for it to become a standout title in GOTY conversations. Alongside its PlayStation Plus Premium trial, the game will also be available on Xbox Game Pass. Meanwhile, for players enjoying the current month, essential tier subscribers can already download and explore titles like F1 25, Hunt: Showdown 1896, and Earth Defense Force: World Brothers 2.
